In a survey of 501 Israeli adults, 68% said they support U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to relocate Gaza’s population, according to Israel’s Channel 12. The poll, which has a 4.4% margin of error, found that 20% oppose the plan, while 12% remain undecided. Meanwhile, Arab nations, including Egypt and Jordan, strongly oppose the proposal, and U.S. officials are considering alternative solutions.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz decided Monday to establish a directorate for voluntary departures from Gaza, Channel 14 reported.
Egypt and Jordan Reject Gaza Relocation, Propose Alternative Plan
As Israel discusses relocation, Egypt is developing a counter-proposal to rebuild Gaza without forcing residents to leave, the Associated Press (AP) reported Tuesday.
Egypt and Jordan, which Trump suggested could absorb Gazans, have publicly condemned the relocation plan. The Arab League, representing both nations, has also voiced strong opposition.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, currently in Saudi Arabia, said the United States is open to alternative solutions. “If the Arab countries have a better plan, then that’s great,” Rubio stated on The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show last Thursday.
Trump’s Vision: ‘The Riviera of the Middle East’
Earlier this month, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu introduced the Gaza relocation plan in a joint White House press conference. “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip… we have an opportunity to do something phenomenal… the Riviera of the Middle East,” Trump said.
He later suggested that Gaza’s 1.8 million residents should be relocated to countries with humanitarian interests, stating: “There are many of them that want to do this… ending the death, destruction, and bad luck.”
